I was born and brought up in Guernsey, growing up in the Western parishes and attending Forest Primary School and then Guernsey Grammar School, like many young adults I was tempted into the finance industry at 16 and worked at Barclays for 4 years and then Morgan Grenfell before moving to Specsavers where I qualified as an accountant.
I have travelled extensively over the last few years first leaving Guernsey in 2000 to move to Ayia Napa, Cyprus where I owned an extreme sports business, throwing people off a 200 foot high crane into a big net! I ran this successfully for 2 years alongside our bar catering for the 18-30’s scene in the heyday of the Cypriot resort.
Returning to Guernsey and Specsavers in 2002, I managed a few more years before a new life beckoned me to the British Virgin Islands where I worked for small Trust company, did a lot of diving, sailing, surfing and discovered my love for competitive cycling. Life as an expat was great fun and a terrific learning experience, the BVI is heaven but if you truly want to go back in time in terms of customer service, Infrastructure and attitudes it’s certainly the place to go!
After 6 years living in paradise, it was time to return to Guernsey and put down some roots. I love Guernsey and it’s seasons; dramatic coastline, friendly community and although the BVI was idyllic I never really felt it was home.
When returning to Guernsey, I initially worked with the States of Guernsey on the Financial Transformation Project but Specsavers called me back, and I became part of the Retail Support Team, responsible for Customer Service and performance of over 90 stores in the Midlands.
I was part of the team that set out on a five year plan; to make Specsavers “the number 1 retailer for customer service in the UK”. A goal, which we achieved in 2016, when Specsavers was voted number 1 bricks and mortar retail store, for customer service by the Institute of Customer Service.
I have now decided it’s time for a new challenge, and I am proud to have become part of The Busy Queen Bee Franchise and have set up The Busy Guernsey Bee.
I am extremely passionate about customer service and strongly believe that great businesses grow from having good customer service principles at their heart. The opportunity to be part of The Busy Queen Bee franchise was something I could not pass up. Claire is a formidable force in the customer services industry having developed an extensive network of clients not only in Jersey, where she is based, but also in Guernsey, the Isle of Man and Isle of Wight. I am extremely excited about the new venture.
In my spare time I still enjoy competitive cycling. I am a Director of the Guernsey Velo Club LBG and a founder member and organiser of the MUG ride. I am married and have twin girls, and being able to run my own Franchise will enable me not only develop and expand my business, but also spend quality time with my family.
